Like the frogs we study in the O'Connell Lab, people are highly diverse, and it's that diversity that makes us stronger. Our country's longstanding history of institutionalize racism and oppression prevents many groups from obtaining the education, training, and careers afforded to others. I am committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all that I encounter, both inside and outside of the lab, regardless of race, color, genetic features, disability, age, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, or ethnic or social origin, language, religion or belief, membership of a national minority, property, birth, citizenship, economic class, or veteran status.
A more detailed DEI statement is forthcoming. Thank you for your patience as I work through this emotional and complex topic. Thank you to Lauren O'Connell and the Lab of Organismal Biology for critical discussions and valuable training that have allowed me to educate myself and reflect on my intrinsic biases and begin to dismantle them while contributing to an environment that promotes inclusivity for all.
